Went to a pub called Shakesbeer in Grenoble. Bought Shakesbeer beer. It was pretty bad. Saw a brand new Panamera bombing down narrow streets later while having a glass of wine. Not a bad night.

Ooh, Grenoble, I like Grenoble. Mind you, I might be a bit biased in my impression.

I was working a ski season up in the mountains all winter, and some time about the middle of March I was transferred from one resort to another via Grenoble, with enough time to stop off and have a look round.

Up in the mountains it was still snowy everywhere, freezing every night, with nothing green to be seen except fir and pine trees - and those only below the treeline. Down in Grenoble it was a beautiful hot spring day, with flowers in bloom, trees in full leaf, insects buzzing around, heat rising up off the hot stonework. We sat outside somewhere quite nice for lunch, and after ski resort prices it seemed a real bargain.

Oh, and I found a piece of hash up by the castle.

Great memories :)

Oh you're in France? Where are you going next? (I'm curently 4h south of Grenoble, near Marseille, and my parents live less than 2 hours west of Lyon).

I'll actually be here in Grenoble all summer, minus weekend trips and what not. I'm trying to finish up my French minor at the university here in town.

I'd love to see it winter, but I'm only here for summer. The mountains are absolutely beautiful though. And yeah, there seems to be a decent amount of hash floating around here...

It's not quite the same, but you're not far from some summer-skiing. Les Deux Alpes is only just down the road from Grenoble, and although it's a fairly charmless place, once you get up the mountain to the glacier it's going to look much the same as in winter. Val Thorens is about twice as far, but a much nicer place in summer. (And winter, to be honest.)
